After Forever - Dechiper

Nell’ambiente sovraffollato del metal sinfonico poche band riescono ad emergere. Fra questi sono i giovanissimi After Forever, con solo un età media di 20 anni sono riusciti a creare un capolavoro.La loro musica si differenzia dalle altre composizioni del genere per una chitarra in molti frangenti power e una batteria con qualche accenno prog, ma sempre con una luce dark e sempre ricche di pompose melodie. E ripeto: NON FANNO GOTHIC METAL: l’errore nasce dal fatto che gli After Forever hanno una vocalist femminile e atmosfere dark.
Farò una track by track:
- Ex Cathedra: una bell’intro dove l’ha da padrone il suono del violoncello
- Monolith of Doubth: un pezzo meraviglioso, potente e veloce che mi ricorda i lavori dei Nightwish. Floor è davvero impeccabile. Bellissimo l’acuto finale.
- My Pledge of Allegiance #1: un pezzo dai toni decadenti e orientaleggianti. Floor duetta con il growl del fratello Mark.
- Emphasis: In questo pezzo ritmato ma non troppo la voce di Floor raggiunge ottimi livelli. Tutto il pezzo è accompagnato da meravigliose orchestrazioni, soprattutto nel finale
- Intrinsic: Introdotto dalle tristi note di un oboe, sicuramente il pezzo più emozionante del cd, con numerosi cambi di tempo e atmosfere: Floor è divina
- Zenith: un pezzo veloce dove Floor duetta con Mark. In alcuni moenti le chitarre si avvicinano al death. Belle le orchestrazioni dell’intermezzo
- Estranged: il pezzo più veloce, più power e anche il più bello dell’album. In alcuni momenti quasi commovente.
- Imperfect Tenses: una bellissima e strappalacrime ballad che ricorda lo stile neoclassico. Floor duetta con una voce pulita.
- My Pledge Of Allegiance#2: é molto più ritmato e affronta come il primo pezzo il tema della religione.
- The Key: un ottimo pezzo dai toni molto dark. Bellissimo l’intermezzo tra chitarra e organo,quasi da film Horror. L’unico pezzo influenzato dal Gothic
- Forlon Hope: velocissimo, molto power, ma allo stesso tempo dai toni decadenti. Contiene le orchestrazioni migliori del disco.

After Forever - Prison Of Desire

Prison Of Desire

After Forever. Un nome che richiama una delle band seminarie della scena sinfonica odierna insieme ai conterranei Within Temptation. Una band che non ha avuto coraggio di modificare il proprio sound, passando dal gothic al symphonic, dal prog fino all’heavy di Remagine.“Prison Of Desire” è il primo vagito della band olandese, edito dalla Trasmission Records, etichetta abbandonata di recente dalla band. Il genere proposto è sicuramente Gothic Metal ed è l’unico album della band classificabile con questa etichetta, come più volte ha affermato lo stesso Sander. La band ha imparato la lezione impartita dai maestri del genere, dai Tristania ai Theatre Of Tragedy, però aggiungendosi una dose non indifferente di personalità e elementi originali, non ultimo le notevoli influenze progressive che cesellano questo capolavoro. Un album oscuro ma magniloquente, con una Floor poco più che 18 enne che raggiunge già un grado di espressività fuori dal comune. Per quanto concerne il songwriting, si sente il tocco di Mark Jansen.
Il cd si apre con “Mea Culpa” che svolge la funzione di Intro. In questo pezzo canta un vero e proprio coro, L’After Forever Choir, dove è presente anche Sharon Den Adel dei Within Temptation. “Leaden Legancy” è la prima e vera propria traccia ed è un capolavoro di rara maestria: un pezzo che sa essere sia romantico e decadente che potente. Da brividi l’interpretazione di Floor accompagnata dal growl, e l’intervento delle tastiere, che danno un gusto molto gotico al tutto. “Semblance Of Confusion” ha un incidere impetuoso e maestoso ed è condito da molti elementi rubati al neoclassico, come le orchestrazioni (in realtà riprodotte da synth). Il suono della chitarra acustica e delle orchestrazione ci introduce nella bellissima “Black Tomb” un pezzo molto oscuro, tetro e tenebroso, pieno progressioni ritmiche di tutto rispetto e tastiere orrorifiche. Superlative queste ultime che, insieme alle chitarre di chiara matrice death, sanno ricreare un muro sonoro di tutto rispetto. “Follow In The Cry" viene introdotta dal suono di un sitar ed è già una rappresentazione dell’amore della band per le sonorità orientaleggianti, amore che verrà balestrato in tantissime tracks della band (“My Pledge Of Allegiance #1”, ”Attendance”, “Sins Of Idealism”…). È anche il primo singolo della band. È un pezzo arioso e regale, dove i cori la fanno da padrone. “Silente From Afar” è un pezzo dalle marcate tinte neoclassiche, che ricorda un po’ la successiva “Run For A Fall” degli Epica. Ha un inizio malinconico e nostalgico, per poi crescere nella superba seconda parte, esplosiva e decisa, che porta l’ascoltatore in uno stato di pura estasi. La successiva traccia è “Inimical Chimera”, il pezzo più oscuro del lotto , piena zeppa di ritmiche inusuali , chitarre battagliere e richiami all’orrorifico. Capolavoro di emozioni, densa di infinite sensazioni, tetra come una galleria sotterranea della quale non si vede l’uscita. “Thortuos Therody” è un pezzo molto gotico , basato tutto su rombanti riff. Ottimo l’inserimento del growl, molto narrativo, che rende il brano molto più evocativo. “ Yield To Temptation” viene introdotta da un coro molto maestoso e da riff molto combattivi. Un ottimo pezzo gothic, inquietante e angosciante: in molti frangenti la musica ricorda quella degli inglesi Cradle Of Filth in versione soft. Una canzone eccelente. “Ephemeral” è una sorta di ballad dove non viene utilizzato il growl per lasciare libera la voce di Floor.Molti hanno paragonato gli After Forever ai conterranei The Gathering: in realtà le due band sono molto distanti , hanno in comune soltanto il suonare metal (non più nel caso dei The Gathering) melodico con l’apporto di una voce femminile. Invece nella bellissima “Beyond Me” le 2 band si avvicinano: nell’ultima tracks Floor duetta con Sharon dei WT e nella prima parte vengono abbandonate le sonorità dark e pompose delle tracce precedenti a favore di tinte crepuscolari, che a livello di atmosfere possono richiamare i The Gathering. Nella seconda parte sopraggiungono le tenebre , in un crescendo di oscurità e di tensione. Ma alla fine torna sempre a splendere il Sole ed assistiamo all’alba di un nuovo giorno, ovvero ala ripresa della prima parte.

After Forever


After Forever è una band Symphonic metal olandese che si contraddistingue per l'utilizzo congiunto di una voce Soprano e di un rude stile death. Il suo nome deriva dall'omonimo brano contenuto nell'album Master of Reality dei Black Sabbath

Biografia
La band originariamente si formata nel 1995 con il nome di Apocalyps, realizzando prevalentemente composizioni di carattere Doom Metal. Con l'unione della voce femminile di Floor Jansen nel 1997, lo stile della band subì una svolta verso il genere Gothic.
Nel 1999 la band inizia a comporre brani propri e registrati in due demo intitolati Ephemeral e Winds of Illusion che catturarono l'attenzione dell'etichetta discografica Transmission Records, con la quale la band sigla un contratto.
L'album di debutto della band, Prison of Desire, viene registrato nel 2000, con la partecipazione speciale di Sharon den Adel. L'album ottenne un significativo successo in Europa. Per la fine dell'anno, il batterista André Borgman ed il tastierista Lando van Gils si unirono alla band, in sostituzione di Joep Backers e Jack Driessen.
Nel 2001 esce l'album Decipher. Floor Jansen fu invitata a cantare come ospite in Ayreon, un progetto di Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Nel 2002 Mark Jansen abbandona la band per fondare un nuovo progetto, is Sahara Dust, futuri Epica. A fronte della perdita del principale compositore, gli After Forever verso la fine del 2003 si cimentano in un EP Exordium, prima di rilasciare Invisible Circle.
Pochi mesi dopo, nel 2004, il concept album Invisible Circles e` rilasciato sempre per Transmission Records: l'album raggiunge il 26° posto nella classifica top 100 olandese.
Nel Settembre 2005, la band rilascia Remagine ultimo lavoro pubblicato per Transmission Records. Lando van Gils lasciò la band e fu rimpiazzato da Joost van den Broek nello stesso anno. Il disco presenta diverse divagazioni musicali che allontanano il gruppo dal loro sound originale e anche da parte del loro gruppo di fan. Segue un tour che per la prima volta tocca anche l'Italia.
Il 3 marzo, 2006 la band abbandona l'etichetta Transmission Record, a causa della scarsa promozione che l'etichetta riusciva ad organizzare per la band stessa. durante la fase di songwriting del nasciaturo After Forever, il gruppo trova un contratto discografico presso la Nuclear Blast.
After Forever, il nuovo disco, e` uscito il 20 aprile 2007.

E’ finita la nostra splendida avventura, se così si può chiamare.
Non puoi immaginare quanti bei ricordi conserverò nel mio cuore per sempre!!
Sono stati 10 giorni vissuti intensamente, senza paranoie e problemi, solo con una grande voglia che le cose funzionassero davvero, e così è stato… non puoi capire quanto questo mi rende immensamente felice!!
Inizialmente un po’ mi impauriva l’idea di vivere con te per la paura di sbagliare, di non essere all’altezza oppure di deluderti, ma queste, tu sai bene, che sono sempre le mie paranoie, ma tu sei stato in grado di farmi sentire a casa mia e di coccolarmi il tempo necessario per farmi sentire a mio agio e per rendermi felice.
Ogni singola cosa fatta insieme a te è stata una grande vittoria… anche il semplice lavare i piatti o stendere i nostri vestiti al sole per farli asciugare, assumeva un significato diverso perché fatto insieme a te e condiviso completamente con te.
L’idea di poter svegliarmi la mattina e fare la colazione insieme a te, tornare a casa alla sera sapendo che saresti stato lì ad aspettarmi con un dolce abbraccio ed un grosso bacio, poter condividere con te la nostra passione per internet ed il computer, poter coccolarti e abbracciarti ogni qualvolta ne sentissi il desiderio… tutto questo mi eccitava da morire e mi faceva sentire ancora più parte di te… ormai il posto che hai guadagnato nel mio cuoricino non te lo toglierà mai più nessuno perché il mio cuore ha scelto te e non intende in nessuno modo privarsene.
Come amo potermi addormentare accanto a te e potermi svegliare tra le tue braccia sentendo il calore del tuo corpo accanto al mio e il tuo respiro sul mio collo… sensazioni che non hanno prezzo.
Forse sono cose scontate e forse anche un pò ridicole, ma sono queste le cose che contano per me, le piccole cose che fanno grande una semplice giornata come tante, le piccole grandi cose che abbiamo potuto condividere e affrontare insieme come una grande squadra che lotta per raggiungere un traguardo tanto atteso e tanto desiderato.
Anche il giorno del mio compleanno, anche se non abbiamo fatto nulla di particolare, è stato meraviglioso perché ho potuto passarlo con te e ho potuto godermi tutte le tue carezze e i tuoi baci… non sai quanto io amo essere coccolata in quel modo… tu non sei una persona che esprime i suoi sentimenti a gratis senza una ragione e, quando lo fai, so che lo stai facendo con tutto il tuo cuore e questo rende i tuoi gesti ancora più importanti e pieni di significato.
Non ti vorrei in alcun modo diverso da come sei, sei lo specchio della mia anima, il sole nel mio mondo, la luce delle mie giornate… sei il mio angelo… è questa la verità!!

Come è stato e come si prospetterà il 2007?

Beh fin'ora è stato grandioso... con alti e bassi... ma vincono prevalentemente gli alti sui bassi... quindi un bel voto per i primi 7 mesi del 2007... speriamo continui così...
